Currency of Busy-ness

We live in an extraordinary world.  So much knowledge and information available at our fingertips.  World travel is easier than every before and pretty much everywhere is accessible.  We can communicate instantly and across the globe.  We are being encouraged to take more responsibility for our own health, our own communities, our own families.  We are often encouraged to work in a flexible way, work from home, access emails and communication at home and on holiday.  There is just so much to DO.  So much to KNOW.  And so it’s no wonder that we’re all BUSY!

Busy-ness has become the latest currency.  It’s as if the busier you are the richer you are.  Just take a moment to consider those around you, in both your work and home lives.  How busy are they? How busy are you?  How often do you find yourself saying “Can it wait, I’m really busy?” or “I can’t do that, I’m too busy” or something along those lines. 

How do you feel when people say it to you?  Are they implying that everything else is more important than you are?  And are you OK with that?  We’ve become very accepting – almost expecting certain people to say that they’re too busy.  Is that we want?  Is that we want to teach?  Remember we are Role Modelling all the time.  Who sees you as a role model?  What are you teaching them about busy-ness?
