Evidence or intuition?
Jan 31, 2025It is wholly right and proper for employers to make decisions based on evidence. And not just any old evidence, but robust evidence that will stand up to scrutiny or even stand up in court if need be. But we are not companies, corporations or public sector bodies. We are people. We are accountable to ourselves and our families. And sometimes we make decisions without evidence. We follow our hearts and our intuition and we can’t explain why something is right for us. We just feel it. Is that a bad thing? No. Does making decisions based on your heart and intuition have a place in business? Interesting question! And I’m not here to hold judgement over what the answer might be. I think you’ll have your own answer. Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple said: Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you want to become.
So he clearly believed that it has a place in business and look where it took him! So maybe this is more about courage. I don’t consider myself to be courageous. I know people who I DO think are courageous, but actually they probably don’t consider themselves to be. Courage is different things to different people. And so maybe it is only for ourselves to judge whether we are or are not courageous. So today, I’m going to invite you to be courageous. At least a little bit. Remember what Walt Disney tells us: All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.
