That little voice

Aug 16, 2024

Pretty much all of us have that little voice in our heads, guiding us, commenting on our actions, sometimes arguing.  Some people think of it as the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other.

How do you talk to yourself?  What does that voice sound like?  Is it kind, nurturing and encouraging?  Perhaps it’s a bit more critical, judging what you and those you come in contact with do and say?  It could be that it’s more logical than that, analysing the world around you and the people in it with cold hard fact and reasoning.  Perhaps your voice has more of a childlike tone, encouraging you to play, have fun and explore?  Or maybe it’s encouraging you to be good, do the right thing and seek praise and recognition.  Of course it’s possible your little voice is daring you to break the rules or inviting you to push back.

How we feel can be governed by what we are thinking and we express our thoughts through our little voice.  So, if our own little voice is being overly critical we can end up feeling negative.  So today, be kind to yourself and if you hear your little voice having a go at you, smile, remember this and help your little voice to say something kinder to you instead!

Susan Taylor tells us “Thoughts have power; thoughts are energy.  And you can make your world or break it by your own thinking.”

So today, if someone says “penny for your thoughts”, let those thoughts be world-making not world-breaking.
