My mentor recently challenged me to describe how The Thriving Today Academy helps organisations.  Why is it needed?  He asked me that 'why you?' question that lots of business owners dread.  What are the challenges that British Industry faces that The Thriving Today Academy can solve? He asked.

I answered:

Staff development in British industry faces several challenges today, driven by a combination of economic pressures, rapid technological advancements, and shifting workforce dynamics.

Retention and Engagement

  • High Turnover: Many organisations face challenges retaining skilled staff, especially younger generations who value career development opportunities.
  • Burnout: A focus on productivity without addressing workload and mental health has led to higher burnout rates and disengagement.

Leadership Development

  • Middle Management Gap: Managers often struggle with people skills, such as effective communication, coaching, and conflict resolution, leading to disengaged teams and operational inefficiencies.
  • Succession Planning: A lack of leadership pipelines can result in a reactive approach to filling senior roles.

Hybrid and Remote Working Challenges

  • Organisations are grappling with how to manage, develop, and engage distributed teams effectively. Many leaders are underprepared for managing performance remotely or fostering collaboration in hybrid environments.

Short-term Focus on Training

  • Under pressure to deliver immediate results, companies often prioritise quick fixes over comprehensive learning strategies. This results in ineffective training that fails to drive long-term behavioural change.

Mental Health and Well-being

  • Mental health issues are becoming more prominent, but not all organisations have integrated well-being into their staff development strategies. Training often overlooks emotional intelligence and resilience-building.

Cost and Time Constraints

  • Budget limitations and operational demands make it difficult for many companies to invest in comprehensive training. This is particularly acute for SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises).
